Vintage Speedway Race From 'Once A Jolly Swagman' 1948

I had not even heard of this 1948 Speedway Racing film, "Once a Jolly Swagman" until I stumbled upon it last night on Netflix. Its got some great vintage British Speedway footage and the storyline is pretty good as well. It is available for instant streaming viewing HERE if you have a Netflix account. Enjoy! I picked up this Honda Drag Bike toy model kit today at a swap. What puzzles me though is the maker of toy as its smaller than the 1/8 scale Revell kit, measuring 7" long by 3-1/2" high x 2-1/4" wide at the handlebars. If anyone knows the maker please share. Its for sale if interested HERE!

I picked up these boots yesterday at a swap and would have to admit they are pretty cool and are very well made. The boots are from Russell Moccasin Co. in Berlin, Wisconsin and are 100% made in USA and are of 1980's or 1990's vintage. They are for Turkey hunting and have the camoflauge sections to blend in with the surroundings as Turkeys, I read, have pretty keen eyesight. They could probably be used for motorcycle riding and have a cool Mr. T / A-team look. They are available for sale HERE if interested. Size 13 D as modeled by me and they fit perfectly.

Dating the Bates Leather Jacket

This jacket which resently sold on Ebay had dating numbers, or so it would appear, sewn into the lining at the bottom of the jacket. Having owned and seen a handful of Bates jackets I've never noticed any type of dating tag before today. It appears this jacket's "6 4" tags could possible stand for the year of manufacture, in this case 1964. Although you can ballpark date leathers based on tags and zippers it would be interesting to find out if all the Bates jackets from the early 60's on down had the same date identification tags.

I had been looking for a pair of vintage carpenter jeans in either an unwashed indigo or railroad stripe for a while and the Lee Sanforized and Carter's have been pretty hard to find in the right size. I stumbled across Pointer Brand's website and these guys have been making the same work jeans since 1913 and offer an unwashed indigo, railroad hickory stripe, fisher herringbone stripe, and brown duck canvas, as well as a natural wheat painter color. I just ordered a fisher striped pair so if anyone is interested in these type jeans or the old style chore coats you might want to check out Pointer's offerings HERE!

I thought these boots were pretty cool when I picked them up over the weekend. I'm not familiar with the brand REDBAND but they sold about five minutes after I listed them on Ebay so I'm sure the buyer knew what they were. My guess is they are a size 8.5 or 9. The boots have a nice look and great patina though they could use a resoling!

Late 1960's Red Wing Boots

I posted these boots before as you might remember and originally I thought they were 1950's vintage. They have since sold but if you look at the Red Wing tag and notice there is no "Made In USA" verbiage the tag alone dates to the late 60's. The box also appears to be of 1960's vintage but you may notice the box is for the Irish Setter model and these boots aren't Setters. A couple of cool points about these boots are the silver grommets, the unique dark red color, and the hunting plaid lining which I've never seen before. The original hemp type natural laces are cool as well. Again, I can't make much sense out of the number codes on the tongue. These boots were purchased by a Japanese collector.

Above are photos of my pair of Red Wing Boots. From looking at the "Made in USA" tag it appears these boots are 1974 or newer and have silver grommeted eyelets which are characteristic of 1970's or earlier Red Wings. I still can't make much sense of the date coding on the tongue though.

Hot Rod Gang Movie - 1958 - on Netflix (Gene Vincent & a Police Panhead)

If you like old '50s Hot Rod B-Movies you'll be glad to know Netflix now has Hot Rod Gang from 1958 on their instant watch queue. I've only seen this film offered before as a bootleg VHS and in horrible quality but the Netflix version is in very nice shape. The movie features a cool Harley Police Panhead and some great live footage from Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps. The movie also stars John Ashley who's in a few of the other Hot Rod Films as well as Motorcycle Gang (1957) and some of the '60s beach movies, and interestingly enough Ashley's voice was used in the A-Team Television series during the helicopter introduction right before the theme song would play. ORIGINAL 1955 Johnny Allen Triumph Streamliner World's Record Poster - Johnson Motors

This poster just arrived in the mail today and its absolutely killer and original and measures 22-1/2" x 34-3/4" from some old guy's shop. This streamliner as well as the cooler pre-unit rigid made the cover of the November 1955 issue of Cycle Magazine. Paul of Show & Go did an awesome post on the streamliner and rigid a couple of years ago HERE. Check it out!
